Why it matters

Leaving the New Age can feel like your world is collapsing.

Wild Branches is a community of former New Agers who offer biblical teaching, discipleship and support. Our aim is to walk people out of the New Age and into a new life in Christ.

Where we come from

For many of us, the New Age wasn’t a hobby.

It was years of rituals, spirit guides, energy work, plant medicine and psychedelic ceremonies. We believed what we were doing was beautiful and good. When the Lord opened our eyes, we were shocked to see how deeply we’d been deceived, and what we had opened ourselves to.

It’s a frightening, humbling experience, and it leaves wounds few people understand.

Before and after: a woman in New Age face paint, and the same woman smiling today after coming to Christ

Caught between two worlds.

Old friends still see mysticism as something true and beautiful. Most Christians have never been near that world, so even caring believers often don’t know where to begin. There are plenty of New Age to Jesus testimonies online. Hardly anyone is doing the slow work of spiritual rehabilitation: helping new believers make sense of what they went through, and offering focused discipleship and community.

At first, many new believers aren’t ready to open up in a typical church setting. They need to hear the gospel from people who’ve walked where they’ve walked. And they’re curious: after all that “enlightenment,” why did we end up following Jesus?

Two women studying an open Bible together at a table

We used to lead people into this. Now we lead them out.

Our team were spiritual teachers, coaches, course creators and zealous advocates of all kinds of personal development and mysticism. When Christ saved us, we shut it all down. Now we use our gifts and our story to show New Agers why those teachings couldn’t deliver what they promised, and to share the gospel in a way they can actually hear.

For over three years, Wild Branches has been a safe place to ask hard questions, see the past through a biblical lens, and build a life that stands firm in Christ. Going full-time would let us reach far more people, online and in person, and walk with each of them more deeply.

How we disciple

A free course that builds a strong foundation.

Oneness to One God is a three-month discipleship course taught by our team. It takes new believers coming out of the New Age through the foundations of the Christian faith, rooted in Scripture and shaped around the questions we’re always asked.

Along the way, it dismantles the deceptive teachings of all sorts of spiritualism and equips believers with the information and tactics to do the same for others.

Course outline

The first 5 modules of a 12-module course.

Surprisingly, the course doesn’t begin with the gospel! We’ve structured it to wrestle with the foundational roadblocks that keep many New Agers from hearing the gospel in the first place. Each module builds to the next.

  1. Module 1

    What is Truth?

Addressing what we hear all too often: “Well, that’s your truth.”

  2. Module 2

Why can we trust the Bible?

Here we dismantle lies about the Bible and show how incredibly reliable and inspired it is.

  3. Module 3

    Who is God?

We compare the Christian God with animism and oneness, because “Jesus died for your sins” makes no sense if you believe God is an impersonal force within you, rather than Creator, King and Judge of the universe.

  4. Module 4

    Who is Jesus?

We look at what sets Him apart from every other teacher, including the mystical versions of Him, so that we can plainly see that Jesus is far greater than any other.

  5. Module 5

    What is the good news?

Having confirmed that truth is real, that the Bible is reliable, who God is and who Jesus is, we’re ready to go through why the Son was sent and why we’ve cast all our hope on the Lamb, the One who is worthy forever and ever. Amen.

Seven more modules follow, twelve in total, taking new believers from these foundations into a mature walk with Christ.

Community

No one should have to go through their “Jesus Crisis” alone.

Today

We have a lively community chat, bi-weekly community calls, occasional study series such as “Can I Trust the Bible?” and “Intro to Biblical Typology,” and a free resource page full of our favorite online videos, music, teachers and preachers.

Our goal

Multiple weekly online meetups for Bible study, prayer, course Q&A, group coaching, a book club, and men’s and women’s groups. We’ll also open calendar slots where members can book free private calls with Dylan and Mia for deep-dive coaching and one-on-one support.

10+People who have come to Christ

We aim to build up every member of Wild Branches. Throughout the last three years we’ve been blessed to witness many baptisms, public testimonies, friends and family getting saved, weddings taking place, new families being started, and the gospel going out as our tightly knit community grows strong in the faith.

Many of our members have been with us for years and routinely bring new members into the community as they share with others about our Lord.

Community poll

In a recent poll, a handful of members shared with us how Wild Branches has impacted them.

Members could choose more than one answer. Numbers show how many chose each one.

  • Deepen my understanding of Scripture and Christian theology10
  • Find support and encouragement as I let go of my old life10
  • Recognize and turn away from New Age beliefs or practices8
  • Feel equipped and bold to share my faith with others6
  • Grow closer to Christ and strengthen my faith2
  • On my journey to becoming a Christian2
  • None of these apply to me yet0

From our community chat

1 / 12
A community member: While at work, I just shared part of my testimony with someone running a New Age festival. Another: two friends from my former New Age community asked if they could come to church with me. They were so open to it all. God is seriously good.
A community member: I grew up in the church but turned away from my faith a few years ago and started exploring New Age practices. I am now on a journey of rediscovering my faith and trusting in God again.
A community member: I got baptized yesterday, and I will be praying for you.
A new member: It means a lot to be included in a space like this, to grow with other believers. My walk with Jesus has been the most fulfilling, and at times isolating, journey I have been on. Many of my current friends do not understand.
A community member: I shared my testimony! I was shaking the whole time, but the Holy Spirit really helped me through.
A community member: Last night my family hosted an evening church service. A friend shared his testimony and our pastor gave a clear gospel invitation. Many neighbors who are not Christian came. Please pray that they would be saved.
A community member: Many people came up to me after my talk to share how powerful it was to them. One said she was going to start reading her Bible.
A community member: Thank you both for taking the time to help me through this. It brings so much clarity, and it makes me feel like I am not alone. Praise the Lord.
A community member: This is exactly what I needed. So grateful to have this group while being so isolated.
A community member: I was searching in the new age, thinking I would find light and healing there. Instead, I found confusion and emptiness. By God’s grace, He opened my eyes. Being surrounded by brothers and sisters who walk with me is a blessing I never knew I needed.
A community member: I have heard more honest things in this group than in a lifetime of my old friend group. Even in New Age, when everything was supposed to be about your truth, it felt so empty in hindsight. Praise God for opening us right up.
A community member: You, Dylan and Joe are certainly very passionate about your journeys and bringing the word to people. It is really admirable to see how devoted you all are to this.

Who you’re partnering with

Why we’ve moved back to Guatemala.

Dylan Lyon, Mia Anderson and Joe Leglaud

We all met at Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, deep in the New Age scene we now feel called to reach. Dylan came to Christ first. He invited Joe and Mia to a Bible study call and spent five hours answering their questions and sharing the gospel. For the first time, they understood who Jesus really is, and within weeks they gave their lives to Him too. We started sharing the gospel with friends still in the New Age, and those calls grew into the community Wild Branches is today.

This year everything came full circle. We felt a call to move to Antigua, Guatemala, as a home base, and to begin extended trips to Lake Atitlán to reach the lost souls there who are still in deep spiritual deception.

Accountability

Where your gift goes

We want you to know exactly what you’re part of. Right now, our team does this work part-time, around other jobs. That limits how many people we can reach and how deeply we can walk with them.

Our goal

$8,000a month

This supports three full-time missionaries living in Guatemala, plus the costs of the mission itself:

  • Living support: housing, food, health insurance
  • Lake Atitlán mission stays: travel, lodging
  • Content, course and community tools
  • Giving partner fees

Monthly support so far

$0of $8,000 a month

Every monthly gift moves this bar. We update it as new partners join.

Going full-time makes it possible to:

01

Begin mission stays at Lake Atitlán

We’ll start with a first trip to learn what the community needs. From there, we plan to spend extended stays at the lake each year, one to four months at a time, sharing life and the gospel with people who would rarely hear it any other way. We hold the long-term plan with open hands, and if the Lord leads us to live there full-time, we’ll go.

02

Reach far more people online

To produce much more content, engaging in evangelism and apologetics and sharing the gospel.

03

Strengthen the course

Finishing Oneness to One God, including building out an in-depth workbook, module and group call structure.

04

Offer more classes in the community

More structured teaching, Bible study and support for new believers as they grow.
